We exist for
Friendship. Community. Ethical business dialogue. Local cultural life. Participation over profit. Alcohol-free gatherings. Respectful, lawful, optional cigar appreciation for adults.
About
Kalman Commons exists to create recurring, autonomous gatherings where people build friendship, business trust, ethical dialogue, and cultural connection. It is not a luxury cigar lounge, a tobacco-promotion vehicle, or a paid networking club. Participation comes before profit.
Founding ethos
Friendship. Community. Ethical business dialogue. Local cultural life. Participation over profit. Alcohol-free gatherings. Respectful, lawful, optional cigar appreciation for adults.
Luxury signalling. Opulence. Captive cigar pricing. Aggressive selling. Tobacco promotion. Alcohol-centred networking. Exclusion through high upfront fees.
Positioning
A weekly alcohol-free business and cultural chapter network across Australia, built on friendship, ethical commerce, local arts, and lawful optional cigar appreciation.Kalman Commons positioning
The public brand does not lead with cigars. Cigars are one optional ritual within a broader community of dialogue — present only where lawful, venue-approved, adult-only, and handled through compliant, retailer-direct supply.
Chapter roles
Each gathering runs autonomously, with or without the founder present. Suggested roles keep the evening calm and repeatable.
Holds the evening together and keeps to the code.
Frames the introduction round and the featured topic.
Curates the cultural contribution.
Holds the relationship and approvals with the venue.
Protects civility, lawfulness, and the spirit of the table.
Ensures age verification, alcohol-free rules, and lawful cigar handling.
Makes first-time guests feel they belong.
Handles modest contributions and records transparently.
Governance
No alcohol at official gatherings. No mandatory cigar purchase. No luxury gatekeeping. No aggressive selling. No tobacco promotion to the public.
Cigars only where lawful, adult-only, and venue-approved. Artists are welcome. Hosts run gatherings under the code. Vendors serve the community; they do not control it. Business is conducted with honesty, transparency, and respect.
Business model
A chapter-based community network with Kalman Systems as founding steward. It does not depend on high upfront membership fees.
Free to join. First visit free or highly subsidised.
A modest AUD 10–20 per gathering only where needed to cover costs.
Optional AUD 15–25 per month for those who want to give more.
Non-tobacco local business patrons may support a chapter per quarter.
Supported through a donation pool or small stipend from contributions.
Purchased separately and directly from licensed retailers — never bundled, never marked up by the community.
Where an attendance contribution is collected, a typical allocation is one share to the artist/community fund, one to host/chapter operations, one to platform/admin, and one held as reserve to subsidise free guests.
